High QLO Vanity Buying Guide for Bathroom

Are you looking to give your bathroom a new high-end touch? And guess what? You’re in the right place!

The vanity you decide to get will completely change the way your bathroom looks and feels.

Use this step-by-step tutorial to pick out the perfect vanity for your style, storage and budget.

What Is a High QLO Vanity?

High QLO means High Quality and Luxury Options. For vanities, that translates to:

  • Premium materials - think marble, granite, quartz, exotic woods
  • Top quality - dovetailed drawers, soft-close hinges
  • Higher quality - special designs, individual constructions.
  • Brand repute - production history
  • Health Spa-like features - integrated lights, USB ports

You pay more. But you get more. Like bathroom antiques.

Different Kinds of Bathroom Vanities

To begin with - what kind of vanity are you after? There are a couple of major possibilities here:

1. Freestanding Vanities

Freestanding vanities have base cabinet cabinets right on the floor with the exposed sides. They tend to be rectangle or oval. Freestanding vanities go the distance.

2. Wall-Mounted Vanities

These vanity units are wall-mounting like the name suggests. The majority are not cabinet-less but open space below. Wall-hung vanities look contemporary.

3. Floating Vanities

Floating vanities get put on a few inches off the floor and a panel conceals the gap. They give a soft, floating look.

4. Corner Vanities

Corner vanities: Corner vanities with a triangle design to slip into the corner. Excellent to get the most space out of a smaller bathroom.

5. Double Vanities

There are two sinks in double vanities, sometimes placed adjacent or opposite one another. Great for those big master baths.

Size is Important

Be thoughtful about the size of the vanity you’ll have. Check the total size of the bathroom where you want to install the vanity. Don’t just buy any vanity that will not be too large to fit there. Consider the lighting as well. A well-lit bathroom can enhance your daily routine and make getting ready a pleasure.

Make sure to also check the sink length that will be ideal for you. These narrow 18-24 inch sinks are great for powder rooms or corners. 30-36 inches works fine for a single sink in the bathroom.

Think about the flow of traffic on the vanity, too. You’ll need space to open drawers and doors without knocking things over. Do not stuff the vanity in with the other stuff.

Material Options

There are several materials for vanity cabinets with a different style. Choose which of these options are right for you:

  • Wood - Natural and cosy. Pick a wood finish such as oak, walnut or mahogany. The distressed wood is antique.
  • Plywood & MDF- Less expensive painted vanities. Go all-in on a gaudy lacquered cabinet.
  • Laminate - Glossy laminate in colors such as white, black and grey is very contemporary. Matte is soft and soothing.
  • Metal - Usually a modern one such as silver, bronze or gold. Adds major glam and shine.
  • Glass - Create a little light with glass cabinets that you can see through. Frosted glass softly diffuses light.
  • Stone - Granite and marble vanities are sophisticated. The heavy stone says a lot.

Countertop Considerations

Along with the vanity, you will also have to choose a countertop that complements the look of the cabinets. Marble, granite, quartz or limestone stone look great with wooden vanities.

Or go minimalist with solid surface acrylic or resin in many matte or glossy finishes. There is also tile countertops in different colors, patterns and textures.

The countertop needs to last all day. Granite, quartz, solid surface, they’re all resilient. Marble needs more careful maintenance.

Storage Savvy

A much-needed vanity feature is practical storage. Think about how much you have to put in your bathroom. Is the vanity big enough to store everything?

Find vanities with drawers on the sides, deep drawers and full extension glides for putting stuff behind. There should be soft-close drawers.

Open shelving or doors do the trick for decor treasures. But do not forget to provide closed storage to hide mess.
